Morristown Medical Center also offers a comprehensive training program for APNs to learn and earn certification to perform bedside ultrasound for patient diagnosis and treatment.
Made possible by the generosity of the medical center’s donor community, APN Fellows attended Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) training, hands-on learning and certification for 35 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). This training allows APPs to use advanced diagnostic ultrasonography to quickly diagnose and aid in the assessment of critically ill patients.
The Morristown Medical Center Department of Nursing also provided its first annual APN Bootcamp, a three-day event with 20 participants and 15 presenters featuring acute care learning opportunities, interactive simulation sessions and mock patient scenarios.

Made possible by a generous donation from the Earle family in memory of former Foundation and Atlantic Health System Board Chair Dexter Earle, the Dexter D. Earle Critical Care APN Fellowship Fund was established in 2021 to support the ongoing pursuit of patient-centered, quality care at Morristown Medical Center.
Studies have shown that APNs in critical care are key members of a multidisciplinary team. They enhance the efficiency of a patient’s flow throughout a hospital stay; support communication between disciplines and between patients and families; assist in developing individualized care plans; and provide a holistic approach to ensure that patients’ medical, physical, emotional and spiritual needs are met.
In 2022, Program Manager Jodi Galesi, DNP, RN, APN-C, joined the team. In 2024, nine APN Fellows participated in the program. To date, 20 APN fellows are participating in or have completed the program. The program has expanded its placements to critical care areas at the hospital, including Medical/Surgical Step Down, Cardiac Step Down and Cardiology with plans to continue expanding to other clinical specialties.
