Program Highlights

  • In 2025, the Nancy and Skippy Weinstein Inpatient Hospice and Palliative Care Center at Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center celebrated 10 years of offering comprehensive care for patients with long-lasting illnesses. Veteran hospice nurse, Nancy Weinstein, and her husband, Stephen “Skippy” Weinstein, generously donated funds a decade ago to create a hospice and palliative care center at Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center.

    With heartfelt contributions from donors such as Candice R. Bolte and Lucy Shurtleff, the medical center will continue to expand hospice and palliative care services for our communities.

  • Thanks to the donor community’s compassion, the palliative care program was able to hire new team members in 2025 to administer the vital care they provide for patients with chronic illnesses.

    The program hired a new board-certified physician specializing in pediatric and adult palliative medicine, a social worker who assists patients and family members and helps navigate resources and an administrative team member to support increasing patient volumes. Continued philanthropy will help sustain this specialized care.

    Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center is home to one of the nation’s largest adult inpatient palliative care programs, delivering comprehensive care to patients and families facing serious illnesses. Donor generosity — including contributions from John and Molly Ferguson and others — helps sustain the work of Anjali Desai, MD, MSCE, medical director of Oncology Palliative Care at the Atlantic Health Carol G. Simon Cancer Center.

    Through philanthropy, patients receive compassionate care at their most vulnerable moments. The program ensures timely and attentive interventions by completing consultations within 24 hours, conducting thorough symptom assessments and aligning treatment plans with each patient’s goals and preferences. These efforts enhance comfort, uphold dignity and improve quality of life throughout the course of an illness.
